PART 1
REGIMENTAL HISTORIES
There are three basic sources for regimental histories - O.Schuster
and F.U.Franckes Geschichte der Sächsischen Armee
(Leipzig, 1885), Heinrich A. Verlohrens Stammregister
und Chronik der Kur- und Königlich Sächsischen Armee
(Leipzig, 1910) and Georg Tessin`s Die Regimenter der Europäischen
Staaten im Ancien Regime des XVI. bis XVIII Jahrhundrets, Teil
1 Die Stammlisten, Bad Honnef a. Rhein 1986. Although all
three agree in many areas, they are at variance in many others.
This is understandable considering the number of units, particularly
prior to 1706, that were authorized, but never raised or completed;
or broken-up and incorporated in other units. In addition, a number
of orders of battle from the period list the unit under the name
of the Lientenant Colonel rather than the Colonel Inhaber. I have
used Tessins work as the basis and tried to incorporate
the other two as appropriate.
Note: The numbers assigned are purely for convenience and in
no way represent precedence.
